Purpose tags allow you to identify the business purpose of teams and groups in your environment at a glance and apply informed governance policies.
Owners are in the best position to define the business purpose of their teams and groups. Use the app to collaborate with owners so they can apply purpose tags, and so you can understand why teams and groups are being created. Set the inactivity threshold according to the business purpose of teams and groups so owners can take action when needed.
Create purpose tags specific to your Microsoft environment, then use them to identify and manage your teams and groups. You can use our default purpose tags, or you can create your own. For more information, see Create and edit purpose tags.

Relationship to policies
